Our 5th-6th Grade winner is…

Some people wonder what life is and when it begins. Does life begin when the baby is out of the womb? Does lie begin when two cells join together? Is an embryo as precious as a new born baby? I believe that life begins when two cells join together and that it’s as valuable as a cute, little toddler with a big smile.

Life is valuable. I am the oldest of four children and even though they are younger than I am, I still love to play with them and I love them. They are very important to me. Of course, there are times when we get into fights but I still love them. Everybody was created by the same Creator. Genesis 1:27 says: “God created man in His own image.” This is why we are important to Him. Even children are loved by God. There are a lot of verses about children. Matthew 19:14 says: “Let the little children come to and do not hinder them for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Psalm 127:3 says: “Lo, children are a heritage of the Lord, and the fruit of the womb is His reward.” Leviticus 24:17 says: “If anyone takes the life of human being they shall be put to death.” This shows that life is precious. It also shows that taking a person’s life will result in punishment. Our lives must be valuable to God because He sent His Son, Jesus, to die for us so our sins would be washed away. John 3:16 says: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son so that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” Wow, Jesus must really love us.

Life begins in the womb when two cells join together. Psalm 139:13 says: “For you created my inmost being, you knit me together inside my mother’s womb.” When you murder a baby still in the womb, you are destroying something that God is still working on. Jeremiah 1:5 says: “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart.” God has a plan for humans even before we are aware of them. Babies in the womb can sense things. When my mom was pregnant and I felt her belly something would kick my hand. I was so excited and impressed at how active babies are even in the womb. Luke 1:41-42 tells of a similar experience: “When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. In a loud voice she exclaimed: “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child you bear!”

Imagine if no one let babies come into the world. Life would eventually stop, people die, no new babies grow up and live their lives. You can’t carry on the generation of God’s children. No one lives forever on Earth. Imagine if Abraham and Sarah never had any children. They started God’s generation that finally lead to Jesus Christ. If Jesus Christ hadn’t been born then our sins never would have been forgiven and washed away. The world would end quicker than God meant it to and that is ruining God’s plan for the world.

I believe that every person should think of himself or herself as God’s Child. In God’s eyes you are truly valuable. Everyone is made in God’s image, even you, and God loves each one of you. That is more valuable than anything you can think of. Life is a gift from God and we should accept it gratefully. We should live each day with kindness, faithfulness and doing God’s will.
